National Disability Employment Awareness Month

It’s finally here—National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) 2016! Held every October, NDEAM is an opportune time to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities.

The 2016 NDEAM theme is #InclusionWorks, and given this year’s hashtag theme, we’re encouraging individuals and groups across the nation to take their NDEAM spirit online by posting images on social media illustrating the many ways “inclusion works.”

To help contribute to the dialogue, the Campaign for Disability Employment (CDE) is running a Twitter “quote-a-day” series featuring diverse voices from disability leaders, both past and present, as well as a “31 Days, 31 Ways #InclusionWorks” series on both Twitter and Facebook. So if you don’t already subscribe to the CDE, be sure to do so now! We hope your organization will also consider retweeting and reposting to provide your stakeholders with a daily dose of NDEAM spirit.

For more specific ideas on supporting NDEAM, visit http://www.dol.gov/ndeam. Suggestions range from simple, such as putting up a poster, to comprehensive, such as implementing a disability education program. Whatever the activity, all play an important part in fostering a more inclusive workforce, one where every person is recognized for his or her abilities—every day of every month.

Best wishes for a successful NDEAM from the CDE. We look forward to learning the many ways that #InclusionWorks!
